Business Owner Lose Long Locks For Love

January 27, 2009

For the third time since 2004, Marie D. Lisewski, owner of Laurel Mountain Basket Company in Easthampton got her hair cut.  For those who get a bi-weekly or monthly trim, three cuts in five years may seem a bit eccentric.  It's not a phobia that prevents Lisewski from periodic visits to the hair stylist; it's the desire to help.  Lisewski donates her cut lock to Locks of Love, a non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children suffering from long-term medical hair loss.  Locks of Loves uses donated hair to create quality hair prosthetics. Most of the children helped by Locks of Love have lost their hair due to a medical condition called alopecia areata, which has no known cause or cure. The prostheses they provide help to restore the childrens' self-esteem and their confidence, enabling them to face the world and their peers.

"I was introduced to this wonderful organization by a friend.  We both believe in giving back to the community so as our 'Christmas gift' in 2004 we made a hair donation to Locks of Love.  You need to be able to donate at least 10 inches of hari so I'm pleased that my hair grows quickly and I can donate every few years", said Lisewski.

Many area salons participate in the Locks for Love program, just ask your sylists.  I love The Lift A Salon located at Eastworks.  Jennifer and her staff are so professional and a pleasure to work with.  Each time I've doanted, they have taken care of the details for me AND given me a great haircut.  I encourage everyone with long hair who is thinking of making a change to a shorter hairstyle to please consider donating their locks to this wonderful organization.  It takes a long time to grow that extra 10 inches so it is a big commitment but a very gratifying one.
